Features of my OrgMaker 2 conversion

Robert Hart (Bavi_H) (rnhart.net)

I kept the same drum sound order Xaser used in his English conversion of OrgMaker 2. This means drums compatible with OrgMaker 1 will sound the same as OrgMaker 1. (Rxo Inverse's Japanese version of OrgMaker 2 put new drum sounds in a few of the existing drum spots and shifted the existing sounds to new spots. When Xaser made his English conversion of OrgMaker 2, he re-arranged those drum sounds so the drum names compatible with OrgMaker 1 sound the same as OrgMaker 1, and shifted the new drum sounds to the new spots.)

I carefully examined the original Japanese text in Rxo Inverse's OrgMaker 2, and updated Xaser's English conversion of OrgMaker as described below. I've never studied Japanese, but by using Google Translate to break and rejoin words in the translation, I believe I've gotten good translations. Read the document "How I modified OrgMaker 2" if you want to modify OrgMaker 2 further or if you want to verify or improve the translations.

Names of grid divisions
-----------------------

The largest grid division is the measure. Unfortunately, existing versions of OrgMaker 1 and 2 have used inconsistent terms for the other grid divisions. I decided to refer to the medium grid division as a "beat", and the smallest grid division as a "step". I changed all references to these grid divisions to use the words "beat" and "step" consistently. In dialog boxes that only operate on measures, I decided to change the "From" and "To" text to "Meas" so it's clear they work on measures.

Dialog box changes
------------------

In Xaser's conversion, dialog boxes are set to use the font "@Arial Unicode MS". If this font isn't installed, the rather large font "System" gets used instead. In my conversion, I specified the Arial font for dialog boxes.

I made the Instrument Setup dialog box shorter in height to help make sure you can see everything on it.

I rearranged the tab order in all dialog boxes to a sensible order. I added access keys to some dialog boxes.

In the Pan dialog box, I put "Left" on the left and "Right" on the right.

Untranslated text now translated
--------------------------------

I translated the Quick Help text.

I translated all alert boxes and the status bar text that appears on the bottom of the Edit toolbar (QuickSelect toolbar).

I added the unknown commands in the Operations menu, previously discussed here:

  http://www.cavestory.org/forums/index.php?/topic/2161-unknown-functions-in-orgmaker-2-revealed/

Incorrect translations now corrected
------------------------------------

The second open command is "Open (in its own dialog)" which I shortened to "Open (My Dialog)". The Quick Help text explains this special Open dialog lets you resize the dialog box and the program will remember the size. I guess this function may have been useful for older versions of Windows? On my Windows XP computer, OrgMaker's normal Open dialog also remembers its size.

In the Initial Values dialog box, the button at the bottom now correctly says "Copy Track 1 to All Tracks". In the Load and Save Initial Values dialog boxes, the file type now correctly says "Pan/Volume Initial Values [*.pvi]".

The first three items in the Operations menu are "Current Track", "Melody Tracks", and "Drum Tracks". If there's a selection, the operation will affect the selected range of the indicated track(s) (current, melody, or drums). If there's no selection, the entire range of the indicated track(s) will be affected.

In the Current Track submenu, the last two items now correctly say "Octave Up" and "Octave Down".

Editorial changes
-----------------

"Preferences" is normally used for application-wide settings, not settings that are saved with the document. I changed the menu item to "Song Setup".

The word "tempo" suggests a higher number will be faster and a smaller number will be slower. I changed the name of this setting back to the original "Wait" to more correctly match the actual behavior: smaller numbers are faster, larger numbers are slower.

Ornamental and hidden text
--------------------------

I translated the version information text (visible in the Properties of the executable file) and the string table resource (not visible anywhere in the program as far as I know) to match their Japanese counterparts.
